Exclusive footage of Westernsynthetics performing at Pyramid Rock Festival 2011 is now live on YouTube. Check it out

Westernsynthetics was welcomed home by a huge crowd at the 2011 Pyramid Rock Festival, his first Australian performance since returning from Europe. Situated on the beautiful Phillip Island in southern Victoria, Westernsynthetics opened the Festival, performing straight after Rockwiz.

The Pharaoh’s Annex stage was pumping, full of the next generation. A younger crowd of more than 3,000 people, they danced and cheered as Westernsynthetics conducted their first musical journey of the weekend. Dedicating the set to the workers at the festival, his two hour set showcased his own tracks including Australian community radio favourites “80808″, “Workers Dub” and “KMADMG” from the new EP “No Holiday”. Westernsynthetics also spun much-loved tunes from fellow comrades Africa Hitech as well upcoming Victorian producer Kloke.

However, the biggest lure came from the 4 unreleased experimental creations that Westernsynthetics trialed on the system and an unsuspecting crowd. Developed in Berlin, these tracks will be released on the forthcoming Westernsynthetics second album in 2012.

Pyramid Rock Festival 2011 delivered performances from Sydney’s own Westernsynthetics alongside Muscles, Scissor Sisters, The Living End, Hermitude, Gotye, The Herd, Grandmaster Flash, Cloud Control, Salmonella Dub and many more.

No Holiday is released in celebration of Sydney Producer Westernsynthetics performing at the 2011 Outlook Festival. Available exclusively on Beatport and including a free download giveaway at westernsynthetics.net

No Holiday is the follow up EP to the acclaimed May Day Radio album. Recorded in late 2010 at a beach front cottage in the surreal surroundings of Kiama, Southern New South Wales, Australia, the EP contains two fresh cuts clearly displaying the signatory Westernsynthetics aesthetic.

KMADMG (Kiama Dreaming) is a pulsating techno slammer that tips its hat to the roots of dubstep. It contains the familiar yet unique Westernsynthetics stamp of production, with use of analogue FX and layered soundscapes over a huge kick drum. Extreme low sub bass frequencies here!

Title track No Holiday experiments with drone and melodic atmospheres to propel complex drum patterns and layered snares over the thick bass line. No Holiday dabbles with the old school rave genre while morphing through complex progressions and nuanced melodic phrasing.

Dubshack wrap up

Sub Continental Dub along with Void & Foreign Dub presented the Dubshack @ Peats Ridge festival over New Years 10/11
Everyone played amazing sets, the hijack soundsystem was fat as butter & the punters were amazing as usual. The Dubshack ended on NYE with hundreds of people chanting DUBSHACK! DUBSHACK! with victim dropping the classic Anti-War Dub.

On The Sub Continental Dub curated day on the 29th of December Alistair Erskine opened the Dubshack with an array of hip hop and funked out beats that suited the ridiculous heat perfectly. Boot & Sook then turned the heat up with their signature heavy dubstep to an enthusiastic dancefloor. Sofie Loizou again was the standout for the Dubshack, she was so popular that when Paul Fraser could not attend due to radio commitments, Sofie was asked to fill in for Void on New Years Eve, playing a slickly mixed and selected set of future beat goodness.

Other standouts were b.i.n.t. freaking the shit out of the hippys with his broken beat breakcore experiments, Spherix brought in the Techno & Flippo literally brought people to tears with his deeper than deep set on the evening of the 29th.
Eli played his bon voyage set before setting off to the UK to live. His set was a lesson in Dubstep, strictly vinyl and true to the original ethos of the sound.
Kodama provided amazing visuals as did Jack Barton and Sam Fox. This is the first time we had visuals on the at the Dubshack and it was a very special addition to the SCD night. many people commented on how unique the visuals were, all three artists brought their own special experiements to the screen.

3rd Eye played his slickly produced deep and minimal bass heavy dubstep to adoring punters while Bec Paton closed the SCD night with a cut and paste collage of hip hop, funk and turntablism. Bec never fears to challenge her audience with the intensely exploratory nature of her music. It was a pleasure to have her close the SCD leg of the Dubshack as her ethic embodies what we set out to achieve when we established this label.

We hope everyone had a great time as we surely did. Thanks to everyone who spent some time with us and our bass!
